Principal
Welcome to Elm Street Elementary!

Elm Street is quite a special place! It is a well-maintained historic building filled with strong teachers and a richly diverse student population. A true neighborhood school, steeped in community tradition, Elm Street is a multi-generational school where many parents drop their children off at the same classroom door they once sat in as students themselves. For others, Elm Street is a new community home. I hope everyone will continue to recognize and encourage what first drew me to Elm Street – the warm, family feeling among staff and students, the commitment to caring for all students, maintaining high expectations for all kinds of achievement, including academic, social, and behavioral growth – to me that is the charm of Elm Street.

I love coming to Elm Street each day, greeting students, parents, and staff members in the morning, and getting the school day started on a positive note. I work to call each child by name as I see him or her coming through the doors, welcoming them to another exciting day at school or chatting with them about what they are learning. I also see my role as principal as one of support for teachers and students. Whether supporting teachers, students, or parents, that support may include celebrating, consoling, assisting, evaluating, training, helping, and coaching. I believe I have something to offer the students and families of Elm Street, but I also know that I can learn something every day from the students and families of Elm Street. While there are many aspects of this position that take time and energy, what is most important to me is our students and our teachers; I love seeing the impact of our school in our community.

Elm Street staff and students work hard each and every day to produce evidence of achievement at or beyond state and local standards. Our teachers work to differentiate instruction for students based on formative and diagnostic assessment data so that the needs of each student can be met. With new interactive 10-point touch HD panels in each classroom, along with 1:1 Chromebooks in 3rd-5th and access to iPads and/or Chromebooks in Kdg-2nd grades, our teachers and students have technology at their fingertips! Our parents and community businesses are our partners and our students certainly reap the benefits. For more than ten consecutive years, we earned recognition as a Title I Distinguished School as a result of our high achievement and our commitment to continuous improvement! We recently earned additional Title I recognition as a National Title I Distinguished School as well!

It is my honor to serve as the Elm Street Principal. Welcome to Elm Street, where you will truly see that Every Learner Matters!
